On this trip you will discover the most beautiful places and the most outstanding cultural aspects of the Dominican Republic crossing the country from north to south. Marvel at Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the "New World", visit the mountainous region of the "Cordillera Central" and discover in Punta Rucia a tropical paradise outside of mass tourism.
After breakfast you will be picked up by your private tour guide at the hotel. With it, you will follow in the footsteps of Columbus to experience the first European city in America up close. The historic old town of Santo Domingo has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. On the city tour you will visit Diego Colón's "Alcázar de Colón" palace, the "Casas Reales" historical museum, the former governor's palace and the first cathedral. Then you will go to "Fortaleza Ozama", the oldest military building of European origin in America, and "Parque Colón" with the bronze monument of Christopher Columbus. You will also walk along "Calle El Conde", the oldest shopping street in the old town, with its many shops and street vendors, as well as many restaurants, bars and souvenir shops.
After lunch, the journey will take you further through rural areas, which are dominated by intensive agriculture. Along the way you will discover small farmers' stalls selling tropical fruits. Soon the slopes of the well-built highway are on the rise and it begins to climb up the mountains of the Cordillera Central, also known as the Dominican Alps, where the locals spend their summer vacations. Jarabacoa is situated 600 meters above sea level and is surrounded by pine forests, mountains and the rivers "Río Yaque del Norte" and "Río Jimenoa". Spring temperatures prevail throughout the year. This town is the center for hikers and nature lovers and offers many adventure sports. Once you arrive in Jarabacoa, you will take a short tour of the charming city.
After breakfast you will visit the "Monte Alto" coffee factory where the cultivation and processing of coffee will be explained to you. Of course, we will have the opportunity to test. Successively and through a fertile valley, you will arrive at San Francisco de Macorís. Cocoa is grown here in the shade of huge jungle trees. Here you will visit the "Sendero de Cacao". Enjoy the unique possibility to learn all about cocoa at the "Hacienda La Esmeralda" plantation, which supplies world-famous chocolate factories. An opportunity to experience everything from cocoa bean harvesting to chocolate processing. You can also enjoy a cocoa and chocolate tasting. Lunch will be served after the visit.
Your next stop is Salcedo, where you will visit the "Tres Hermanas Mirabel" museum. The Mirabal sisters - María Teresa, Minerva and Patria - who fought against the Trujillo dictatorship were murdered in cold blood in 1960 by Trujillo soldiers after visiting their imprisoned husbands. This atrocity shocked the world.
Later, you will continue your trip to Santiago.
In the morning you will visit the cultural center "León Jimenes", where you will learn about the history and culture of the Dominican Republic from the time of the natives to the present day through a series of informative exhibitions. Then we will go to Tamboríl and visit the La Aurora cigar factory, which was founded in 1903. Today La Aurora is a leading manufacturer and exporter of premium cigars. Look at the production and see how the cigars are carefully handmade. You will learn to roll, hold and smoke a cigar correctly. At the end of this experience, the route will take us to the northwest coast to the tropical and paradisiacal sandy beaches of the idyllic town of Punta Rucia. The small town is located in a stunning bay, where the water glows in beautiful blue and turquoise colors. End the day at the beach or by the pool with a tropical drink.
