This Reserve is one of the 102 units that make up the National System of Protected Wild Airs of the State of Chile. It is administered by Conaf and is made up of 3 islands: Damas, Choros and Chañaral. The reserve was created in 1990 with the purpose of conserving a refuge for different species of fauna with conservation problems and representative of coastal ecosystems. In this archipelago 80% of the nesting of the Humboldt penguins is concentrated, this bird lives associated with the current of the same name.
