Discover the special charm of this extreme city, which is formed along the Strait of Magellan with the contribution of different cultures, leaving a valuable historical and cultural heritage with traditions that are maintained until today. Its population is mostly Croatians, Spaniards, Italians, Germans, British immigrants and families from the island of Chiloé in southern Chile. Today Punta Arenas has a population of approximately 125,000 inhabitants.
Our tour begins with a visit to Mirador Hill, where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the Strait of Magellan. Along with this, we will cross the main streets and avenues observing different monuments.
We will leave the city heading north towards the Nao Victoria Museum, which offers visitors the experience of interacting with the replicas of the ships that contributed to the discovery of the area. The colonization of the territory and has an important heritage and history for the Magallanes Region and the Chilean Antarctic. In the construction of the replicas, traditional carpentry techniques were used.
The main collection of the museum are life-size replicas of the historic ships exhibited along the Strait of Magellan. These are: Nao Victoria, James Caird and Goleta Ancud.
We will also observe ancient replicas of navigation of weapons and tools, copies of documents and books related to historic ships and an outdoor carpentry workshop.
