A Day in Chulpas de Sillustani (House of the Dead)
The Archaeological Complex of Sillustani, located 34 km from Puno, at 3,950 meters above sea level. famous for its chullpas "Ayawasis" (houses of the dead) built as circular stone towers, where the Puno authorities were buried.

Itinerary
Day 1
Chullpas De Sillustani (House of the Dead)
1:45 pm Pick up : On this tour we will pick you up from your hotel at 01:45 pm and the bus departure is at 2:00 pm, on a trip of approximately 40 minutes, in which we will stop at a viewpoint where You will appreciate Puno from the height. Upon arrival we will take a walk of an hour and a half in the Sillustani complex with a guide.
Chullpas : The famous Chullpas are stone-built towers that were used by various cultures, including collas and later by the Incas. Stresses the chullpa of the Lizard, which being the highest site reaches more than 12 meters high.
Waru Waru: In the surroundings you can see some waru waru, which are artificial mounds of land designed to protect crops against frost and floods.
Obs. of animals : With luck in Sillustani you can also observe wild pigs of the Indies, birds like flamingos and other wild animals of the high Andes.
Umayo Lake : At the end of the tour we can appreciate the Umayo Lake, which is located in front of the archaeological zone. There are several legends about the origin of this lake that will be told by the guide once we are there. In its central part it has a peculiar flat island at the top that is currently a vicuñas reserve.
Return : On the way back we will stop at a local house, where we can see the way of life in the area, taste typical foods and take pictures with the llamas and alpacas of the families. Then we will arrive in Puno at 06:00 pm and we will take you back to your hotel.
